DOM(Document Object Model)은 브라우저가 HTML과 XML문서를 관리하는 방법이다. 다른 말로는 DOM은 HTML과 XML을 위한 프로그래밍 인터페이스로, DOM으로 화면을 나타내면 프로그램이 문서의 구조 스타일과 내용등을 수정할 수 있는것이다.
DOM은 문서를 nodes와 objects로 나타내서, 프로그래밍 언어(JS)가 이런 화면에 접근할 수 있는 것이다. 즉, DOM은 HTML문서의 객체 지향적인 표현 방법으로, JavaScript 같은 스크립트 언어로 조작이 가능하다.
